Van de Ven Double Ends Everton's Unbeaten Streak at Brand New Stadium

The Tottenham defender found the net on two occasions as Spurs prolonged their unbeaten run in away games in the top division and delivered Everton their initial loss at Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Everton were unbeaten in their last five matches at their new ground at the dockside location, having departed their historic home behind after more than a century at the end of the previous campaign.

But Spurs captain the Dutchman struck twice from corners in the first half to place their strong form at jeopardy, and they were failed to turn it around before the midfielder - set up by ex-Everton forward the Brazilian - nodded in a final goal to seal the victory.

Beto, in the meantime, failed to convert a number of opportunities, while Vicario made a series of excellent stops to guarantee the London club went five matches on the road unbeaten in the English top flight.

But the video assistant referee intervened, advising Craig Pawson to review the score on the screen and the referee decided that Jack Grealish and Iliman Ndiaye were in an illegal position and had impeded with the Tottenham goalkeeper.

This victory moves the manager's team into third place in the division, five points off local foes and leaders Arsenal.

The Merseyside club remain in 14th position and are six points clear of the drop zone.

Tottenham analysis: The defender fulfils role at each end of pitch

After a drab midweek performance in the European competition against the French side, where they managed a only two shots on target, the manager chose the French striker up front instead of ex-Everton forward Richarlison.

The summer signing was failed to make much of an impact before being substituted for the substitute after 60 minutes on the pitch, but it turns out he proved unnecessary in the final outcome.

Defender the Dutchman transformed into an attacking force to be reckoned with.

Van de Ven was equally impressive in defence, partnering well with his defensive colleague as the pair handled superbly with the numerous deliveries sent their way by Everton.

Everton analysis: Everton missing finishing touch

The club's recent stadium had been a fortress, but it appears the freshness may have worn off slightly and supporters flocked to the exits after the midfielder's third for Tottenham.

The end in the team's winning streak at home won't be a major concern for the manager, but their striker situation are.

Beto and the other striker - the Everton's two recognised centre-forwards - had netted only a single goal combined before Sunday's match.

And they were failed to add to that miserable tally on a damp and dreary night on in Liverpool.

The striker's performance was summed up when he chose to overhead kick a golden opportunity from close range, even with having space and time to reposition for a simpler attempt that would have tested the keeper.

The substitute, too, failed to make an impact after coming on for the starter in the second half.

It was not for a shortage of chance. The majority of Everton's attacks came through the winger and the forward, who tirelessly whipped dangerous crosses into the Spurs box.
