Critical Role Campaign 4 Unveils the Fighters Party

From the very beginning of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master the talented storyteller has kept viewers on edge with extensive world-building, a colorful mix of characters, and a thrilling plot showcasing divine entities, demons, and malevolent powers expanding in strength within the city.

Warning: Spoilers for the latest installment of the new season follow below.

The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced

The third episode concluded with a major cliffhanger and presented the initial group of characters who will branch out from the main group to begin their own adventure, distinct from the additional parties.

The Soldiers table consists of Teor (brought to life by Travis Willingham), the nimble rogue (Laura Bailey), the strong-willed figure (Whitney Moore), Wicander Halovar (the player), and Kattigan (Robbie).

Dividing the Cast

Given an extensive roster, it was clear from the start that keeping everyone at the same party would be unworkable.

That’s why, the first four episodes of this story serve as an Introduction, intertwining the individual narratives before splitting into three smaller tables: Soldiers, Planners, and Seekers.

Characteristics of the Warrior Group

According to the DM, the warrior group is for players who prefer a classically intense battle-oriented narrative style where peaceful solutions are rare.

Upon first impression, characters like the reluctant priest the cleric might appear out of place, but the developments of episode 3 make it clear why these specific adventurers are perfectly fit for the Soldiers table.

Why They Must Go

For one thing, the team understands precisely where to go next after a violent initial meeting with the enemy group.

A former ally of the deceased character—whose passing initiated the narrative’s action—manipulated The Crow Keepers for his own means, invading Thjazi’s hideout, striking Thimble, and taking all the magical artifacts to auction.

The traitor then paid off his liabilities and escaped to a secure base in the remote area, beyond the city, with Cyd Pridesire close behind.

Character Drivers

Secondly, each member has a specific drive to leave the city the urban setting:

  • The agile hero, as the close ally and best friend, seeks vengeance.
  • The knowledgeable figure has experience in the northern area and warns that it is a nasty place.
  • The warrior and The cleric, having disobeyed his family’s wishes to execute the target and instead freed him, have no other options.
  • Yet, their status as important members in House Halovar could help the team reach locations they usually can’t.
  • Additionally, Teor pledged a life debt to The cleric for his deliverance and will now accompany him everywhere.

Fugitives

Finally, all of them are sought by the rulers that govern the city for a variety of reasons, making lingering locally no longer safe:

  • The agile adventurer and The hero are recognized lawbreakers.
  • Tyranny and The healer defied the influential house and the legion of demons they are aligned with.
  • The fighter is marked for death by the family.

This results in them few options but to head to the remote area in quest for the traitor.

What’s Next?

According to the recent installment’s post-show segment, we discover that the combat party will not appear next week, leaving the remaining eight participants to form the Seekers and Schemers parties.

Viewers can anticipate learning which players will be assigned to which table in the story’s final introductory chapter, streaming live on the upcoming Thursday.
